Electric motorcycles are here!

Two Lenah Valley residents now each own a Vectrix motorcycle. The Vectrix VX-1 is a 100% plug-in electric bike that produces zero emissions. Its top speed is 100 kph (0–60 kph in about 4 seconds) with a range of about 60 km between charges. Running cost is roughly 1 cent per kilometre. Hobart City Council is installing charging points in the Central and Salamanca carparks, and the owners are in discussion with the people at Motor Registry about cheap registration incentives.

The owners are keen to raise awareness about the potential for electric vehicles in Tassie, so if you think likewise (or if you’d like to check out the bikes) drop Bruce a line at bruce.ransley@impress-cc.com.au or 6278 8115.

Community bike rides

We would like to invite people to enjoy riding their bicycles and explore the new bike paths and tracks around Hobart.

To this end we would like to hear from people who would like to do bike rides starting from the Lenah Valley Community hall. They could be short if your new to cycling or more adventurous, suggestions are welcome.

If there is the interest we will organise a weekend ride.
